Jesse James Escape Route

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Believe it or not, a road originally built in 1853 that stretched from St. Paul to Sioux City, S.D., has been designated as the escape route of the infamous James-Younger gang from the 1876 Northfield bank robbery.  County Road 1  in Rice County served as a key route for trade between St. Paul and St. Peter along the Minnesota River.  A section of the road was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. New signs will be installed by volunteers from the Christdala Preservation Association looking to forward tourism, historic preservation, education and more in the area.  Read the complete article in the Faribault Daily News.
