Owners

Like many B&B owners, Tami and Doug Schluter found a way to pursue their dream of not just owning a bed and breakfast, but meeting and greeting the many interesting travelers that crisscross the country in search of a unique lodging experience. Even before their daughter, Makenna, the love of their lives, decided to graduate from high school and go off to college, Tami and Doug started visiting B&B’s across the Midwest. Toss in a few mission trips to Mexico, Africa, and Ukraine (not to mention some leisure time in Italy and Switzerland) and they realized it’s not necessarily the sites they love. . . it’s the people! Recognizing their God-given gift of hospitality, the hunt for their “dream home” began.

Doug, a CPA but really a hopeless, nostalgic, wannabee historian, launched the search and at the culmination of their four-year quest, they were able to purchase the Hutchinson House in November 2007 as a single-family home.

With the “untiring industry” of the home’s namesake, Tami tore into her new project and the results speak for themselves. Calling on her many years of graphic design, real estate sales and staging (not to mention a touch of OCD), Tami went on an all out “historic” search for furnishings, wall-coverings, and color schemes with the hope of sending every guest into a Victorian era time-warp.

A large part of making this place a memory for our guests was our dog Hoagie – the big, loveable, hug-able, gray-faced mutt. A boxer/huskie mix (is Boskie a designer breed?) that simply loved hangin’ out with people. We think of him now always sleeping in the sun or looking down from heaven wondering what we do with the breakfast table scraps?! But what’s this? A new addition to the family? Yes! Meet our new “Butler” a 4-month old, english bulldog who loves being outside working in the garden! And yes Hoagie, he does get the table scraps!

Nothing gives us more pleasure than sharing our home, our faith, and our stories with you, our guest.
