Week One at St Olaf College

We probably don’t have to remind St Olaf students (or their parents) that Week One, the college’s orientation program, kicks off Saturday, Sept 4. As of this posting, we still have “room at the inn” for parents looking for a place to stay while they get their student settled in.

Having experienced the event when our own daughter went off to college, we thoroughly sympathize with the range of emotions parents might feel.

Breakfast at the Historic Hutchinson House B&B on the first morning (Sept 4, this year) usually takes on a quicker pace. The information fair begins at 9:00 am so our St Olaf guests generally get up and get going. We do all we can to accommodate everyone but mostly get everyone fed and then stay out of the way. The second morning? That’s a different story. The kids are generally in their dorms or apartments and the parents can relax a little more and enjoy our warm, home-cooked breakfast. The conversation around the breakfast table with other parents, survivors of the first day as well, is generally filled with information-sharing and a few chuckles.

If you plan to attend Week One and are in need of lodging, we invite you to come and stay with us at the Historic Hutchinson House B&B. We are in Faribault, just 15 miles south of St Olaf College.
